The Straight Way

streamlining the way, making
the way straight, preparing
the path for the Lord that leads
to my door

lit candles to signify light in the
midst of Winter's stretching
dark - already we have passed
the shortest day

and the world turns back upon
itself in the long spin
towards Spring and Summer - to
the sun in our hearts again

I envision a railway journey
down to the Ford to an
unfamiliar second home
of the spirit, of rest - all
pilgrimage has cost
and I paid, I pay
and pass the test
