The Eve

the sun blushed the tree tops
with gentle peach
as it peeped its last before
sinking behind the hill

and in the echoing chapel
all those many miles away
in another heartland, a lone
boy sings

mild winter in the heart this
year - no frost, no snow
just bright gold today
and bitter blue of sky

quiet is the road
no thing moves
even my blood is distant
in space and time
how they flew
me too
