December Day

Dreich December day
One of suave skies -
Car bonnets are
Swathed in mist and
Crisp with frost. Silence

Reigns - but here are rooks
Flapping and causing a
Disturbance with their
Harsh cries, black looks.
Globules of big

Rain begin to fall
Glinting into the orange
Stiff light striking
Pale gable ends awkwardly
And smoke rising

From a nearby garden spreads
A fuzz of blue haze
Quivering in this
Early air - December
Day with rooks and crows.
