The Unnumbered Seas

They floated like
fish when the sea
took them in its
own white net, its
own fury - the planet is
littered with dead -
there are more of us
gone than here - bones
long gone steeped in
dust and bedded
down - we are so
expendable, the roller that
spawns us and makes
us thin in
disappearing - the seas
number our heads, the
toll is endless, ever-
mounting, and we
care so much for
all our trivia when
not seeing the huge
hands that
bear us down - how
fleeting we are, scaled
low and pushing
through great waters
too deep and vast
for measuring - in
seas unnumbered are
our treasures lying
unseen unknown uncounting.
