eclipse II

a trip to the Suidhe
to see the blood moon -
clouds moving from the
east obscured our
view, but totality
happened before it rose
over the mountain rim …

all around us the
encircling hills:
grey-blue, blue-lilac,
lilac-purple, and the
black lochs so still -

warm air, balmy
night, car headlights bright
up the Wade Road -
navy fell softly
around us as we made our
way home, down
through the purple heather

lemon in the west
where the sun went home
