Winter Stars

He was here today for me
one of the many who were
not of the ephod or
tabernacle but who
lived in forests and in
mountains
on the other side of the world

but god is with us now
for all those who see
and all those who do not
wherever we are - these
are the winter days
in foreign climes

where we take our lights
and our trinkets down
and are left with the
bare branches, the silence,
black skies, chimney smoke
and a wide net of
sparkling stars our
eternal wonder and crown.
