Umbrella

It has rained all day, hard
and soft, hitting the velux
window, then a quiet drench
like a fog, silent, insistent

in here all is warm and aglow,
all proceeds in peace
and fellowship, sometimes
we do not need to talk
so just sit near, each
with our own thoughts

I think of those long
distance people who send me
words on my 'phone - my
candle is lit as many
times a day as I can

and I join him in the celestial
place with all the presences
or on the shore, a bright
moon, calm lapping water
communion and the umbrella
of the stars.
