Truro Cathedral

the best place: living
church and tourists combined -
the beautiful stone
reredos and the silver
pyx in the Lady Chapel

I fixed my gaze
on the altar tryptych
all in gold
and blessed the ground:
how lucky to be here
from so far

later, the bells tolled
all the voices ringing
through the warm
air and the little
river running
underneath the buildings
all the hanging green

cobblestone streets
lit windows
life in bas-relief
and buying
beautiful things
