Threshold Covenant

This is the threshold covenant
this the foot across the door
outstretched hand
smile that beguiles
good heart, good thought,
the invite to come in and taste
waves of love
outspreading, welling
like a stream from its source.
Place the palm that connects
that makes the difference
between love, hate,
good, bad,
between correct ways of living
according to the heart's
barometer, not the pocket's
paper, that too-heavy coin
the token in the hand, wage
that demands
too much in return
insidious harm.
So step in and smile
brother to brother
face to face - place
palm in palm.
Begin the way
you mean
to go on.
