This Woman and Me

Too many words, too
much philosophy not enough
heart, the living red the
fire.

Cool night air and lowering
gently purple sky, lights on
in the homes opposite -
tenement stones and time.

I had a good day today:
positive, expansive, I
touched the limit of my
reach, smiled

and an older birthday
to mark, coolly, not
giving much away and I
saw his lookalike

in a car the other day
and the stab nearly
broke my heart -
lamented stones and time.

So much gone I gather
the little pile of green I have
and tend it
like a young and fragile flame.
