Fit for a Queen

they try their hearts out
the runners
from the Suidhe to the town
clapped on by
onlookers, it's a fair way
after training day-by-day

we drove in later
and looked at a
beautiful thing
I never thought to have
after running my own
marathon from bright
beginning to this old place
of ease
and the mind's turning

I should wear it
with pride: my own
badge of honour, the
medal round my neck
decked out in Royal
Purple, fit for a Queen
