Sailing

It is cool in the shade - today
the breeze is stronger, the clouds
move faster, the aspens are
twirling their leaves and the
sparrows feeding their young

I have been happier, alone,
not felt the strain of the past
pulling at me like taut
rope, it was slack
in the busy hours of heat

pulling weeds like pulling
thoughts up by the roots -
I know they re-grow

all the country bathed in sun
and my heart in billow
like a sail directed
to catch the wind
and carry me forward, no fool

my heart is over the hill
