The Earth

The earth swallows all
things it eats our
histories our metals and
our friends, all the
wonders of the world
disappeared in it and
the land changed, the
seas reformed and
all our yesterdays lived on
in its grains, it
swallows all our pains
all our ill-gotten
gains it lets us
tread its back, forgiving,
forgiving all our lack as we
wander on its shifting
ground, proud of our
edifice and artifice, our
eyes and hands, the
born bones that
walk the earth singing
singular tunes, it hears
all our loneliness and
nothing of it
to the surface brings.
