no peaceful heart

no peaceful heart: it wakes
in agitation

such tired arms: they slip
and hang

and the feet keep walking -
see them move on the pavement

and all is done and counted:
I live by lists, enumerate

all the good
but the past just keeps

stalking

and I pay my rent
of body and soul: pangs

of yearning for the gone.
I used to skip

as a child. I learned
how to play ball, the food

life yields. No patience
and I suffocate: dearth

of water I long
for shore and waves.

Oh let me rest and sleep
for I am spent.
