no care, no creed

a cold morning with
black branches and hanging
water - the sky is quiet
pale blue with blushing clouds
moving slowly by, birds
are subdued, I don't see
any

in here, my head is too full
to be useful, my heart
too empty to use, my body
too sore, too tired, it is
hard to see the point

and all the ills pile at us
from a world confused by
power and money, all the
people feeling lost because
they do not have enough greed

step across the rough sleepers
in any street
the Christ is gone from our time
no care, no creed
