holiday

I am on holiday from myself
I sit in quiet, read -
there is no list I have
compiled; no schedule
to adhere to; I do not
consider items to be added
or prioritise the time;
the shackles of work and
grime have fallen away
with the cool November air,
the gold of larches, the
bird-filled day -
I cannot stay
away for too long, I must
lift up again
what I currently disown,
heft the weight
in my hand, continue
the fight against
all that is dark
that threatens to
take me in and eat me
with no chance of reprieve.
