fragments

today there was a rat
on the bird table
eating the fat fragments -

the piles of holiday dis-
organisation seem to rise
about me and procreate -

it was cloudy in the afternoon
pleasant to be out
cutting the grass, the sun
hidden

but my fire is on
and is cheering
against the sheets of
rain turning the air white

all my life I have done
what I was bidden,
this is freedom here
even with clouds, with
chaos, and a grey rat
