Variegated

The wind and rain hold sway -
our wood arrived today and I
enjoyed the rasp of cold air
in my throat and lungs as we
carried and stacked. I am full
of logs and coal.

I heard the woodpecker drumming
on the tree, and a female
feeds on our nut feeder. We
have mice in our compost bin
from the trail of carrot tops
and brussel sprout leaves.

Afterwards, sweet warmth and
skin. Highland living with the
elements, the cottage breathes
with the weather. I love it here.
I am alive and walking
in it. The hellebores have

already raised their pretty heads
and there are crocus in the grass.
Spring is not far now.
