Tripping

trip to a familiar now hated
place - traffic too much
people too many streets
too known

elegant lunch at The Chip
with champagne: a friend
at 70 - feat for anyone
to live so long

I didn't miss it: the hissing
and booing, askance looks,
hidden knives, the slog
and exhaustion - glad
I was to leave, head
East to the
sands and the seas

my days are my own
