Town Walk

luminous topaz blue, golden
heat in a china sky, pink
horizon, walking through the
little town, people out, shops
open, crisp air, feet found
the tide line, ridged sand

beyond, the headland, green
caravan lines - cranes moved
above the town, always new
building, it renews its mediaeval
soul, but unobtrusively

how can the heart sing quietly,
grinning in there like a
cheshire cat all fat and
satisfied - it is easy on a
good day when the weather
smiles, draws you out the door

and the beautiful wild soul
of land and sea lives
with you in your beating
heart, your breath, your day
all your hopes and dreams on display
