The crossing

cleaning took it out of me,
tired for the journey
to the far East Coast -
a stop in Aviemore for food,
the hills were misty,
cloud-covered

I like to cross the country
see all the hills and trees
happy we were, at ease,
no worries

that night so warm,
no sleep, slept long
into the morning then
a stroll into town
under the sun - so many

tourists with ice-cream
and seagulls, flying
and fighting
