The Wall

how far we travel
into the black before we
realise we are there - it
takes time for our
eyes to catch up with
our feet

and, once there as a whole -
it is too late to do
anything about it
for the road behind is gone
and in the black
there is no direction: no
forward back no
side-to-side no
up or down no
back to front - there

is no rescue for the shy
who trip
and hurt their hands
on the cold stone wall
to break their fall
