The Shaft

The hole in the heart
Is deep and dark
Like a shaft sunk
Far into ground
A perpendicular cylinder
Pointing at
The sun
And empty of all thing
But pain
And it never goes away
Drilled there whole
It functions
And stays
To relay my loss
Easily
A route of direct
Access to the unseen core
The pump that keeps me here
Our link severed by air
Which I breathe and you
Do not
O hollow shaft of silence
O hollow shaft of death
And loss.
