The Life Given

It is not my gift
to know my
place in the race, it is
not given me to know
all ends of mine - I have
tried to take
events on the chin and
turn them into
decency and worth, but
it hasn't always worked
and one reaches times
of trial
when one wonders why
the burden laid seems
heavier than it should.
I have tried to be
good enough
and often lost, often
didn't pass the test
but I can still run this race
and hold my chin up high
and hope I can keep
doing well enough
until I do die.
