The Flame III

Slowly, slowly, lightens the day
the trees form themselves into real things -
they are shadows no longer, I can see
the little cottages opposite
and my garden turns from dark to green.

In my quiet way, with quiet
joy and gratitude, I lift high
the chalice of my life into the day
and give thanks for more life here.

May I see all my plans fulfilled,
hopes satisfied. May the yoke
of my wood lighten and I can
know joy of my limbs, free of
chains, free of bindings.

To live truly free in our heads and
hearts, severed from all the past
moments of our lives would be
transparency, lightness, a clear
chalice filled with clear water

where the light strikes through -
lights up like a pure flame
burning on heaven's altar.
