On the pier of the church

on the pier of the church,
I sweat, my wood
beside me and
my foot hurts

on the pier of the church
the stone digs in
like a parapet
like a new shin

on the pier of the
church I am run-
in, discomfited and
parading all

my hurts as I
rest and
write my woe. To a
friend's house I go.
