No noise

no noise, all around
silence from you, no word, no
breath - no news gets through
for you do not spend your coin
there is no hoard you've saved
to talk to me

even the place your eyes see
I don't know, have no picture of,
can't see you through the
fog of all these miles
and as the seconds tick I feel you
drift further, further out and into dark

my arm and hand do not
reach so far and
I have no rope to throw.
do you know I pin you
with my thought, a lassoo
that can't get through

and on this floor the girls all
congregate, to giggle, call and
scream the amusement of their
men who call or don't

I am one, but silent, sitting
waiting for the 'phone to ring
to hear you thinking
