Learning II

early morning and already
the sky serene arc of rich blue
no cloud, and the sun climbing

the chaffinches patrol the beds,
the woodpecker fidgets
and the red squirrel doesn't
mind my sheets

another day of warring with
my weeds - I hear cars
pass out front heading into
town: town and gown:

been there, done that: today
I have nowhere to go
and no-one to meet

except the green and lush
of my front garden
and my white hat
