Illumination

She said she had a splash of
inspiration as the sun lolled
and looked in
her window - she said it soaked
through the skin
of her brain, trawled
her reason, made her blink wetly
flap in surprise
at her previous
dry suffocation - it slapped
realization onto her
brain's boards
with a new catch
of words - cool rivulets of
thankfulness dripping
over her unsteady course
guiding her in
to the safety of the shores
of not always
having to win.
