Heat Haze

It's a hot day in a clear blue sky
And the flies are out scouting across my window panes, they
Buzz into my silent lanes of thought
As I construct what I am not.

The trees sway imperceptibly
Languid in the hanging air, their serenity
A quiet sap rising, a fluidity of green
And I am still living but not where I have been, I am

Travelling in space and time, negotiating
Routes through the mind and out the other side.
I am making maps and charts to know the place
Where I will not disgrace

My ill-starred aim. In these still silent passageways
This brainhaze and baking heat
I negotiate release.
I can taste that air: it will be sweet.
